Dealing with the Silence of Sexual Violence and Human Trafficking: A Pan-Africanist Approach

May 30, 2020 @ 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm GMT

Overview

Sexual Violence and human trafficking are silently oppressing African women in the diaspora and on the continent. These silent killers are in reality open secrets that are linked to the human exploitation of capitalism and the oppressive structures of patriarchy. We as African people need to directly confront the social structures that underpin sexual violence and human trafficking and challenge the individuals and groups perpetrating these heinous activities. We must challenge the so-called “culture” that promotes women as sexual objects and deny their contributions to the development of Africa. This round table discussion will tackle the impact of sexual violence and human trafficking on African women and explore ways to combat sexual violence and human trafficking in Global Africa

Featured in the Round Table Discussion:

  • Mjiba Frehiwot – A-APRP and A-AWRU
  • Zukiswa White – Pan-Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC)
  • Cheyenne Jones – Activist focused on Human Trafficking

Sponsored by the A-APRP and A-AWRU
