Diamonds Are Forever; Zionism and Imperialism Aren’t
The All-African People’s Revolutionary Party (A-APRP) knows Zionism is closely linked to Africa’s mineral exploitation from colonial times until now. Especially diamonds Israel’s dirty trade in Africa: Diamonds, weapons and settlements – Middle East Monitor. Approximately thirty percent of Zionist Israel’s annual income is based on the exportation of polished diamonds. These diamonds largely come from Africa as raw gemstones, using exploited and forced labor, under the most deplorable conditions imaginable, including the exploitation of child labor. Some diamonds are mined at the barrel of guns supplied by Israel to African militias and foreign mercenaries. These groups are encouraged to prevent state stabilization, by weakening national defense and preventing the development of the mineral industries for African peoples’ benefit. Israel obtains both so-called legal and illegal diamonds; (those sold from conflict zones by non-state actors). Neo-colonial leadership in many African states benefit personally from these foreign mineral corporations from personal stock earnings, minor partnerships and money under the table. Ghana’s largest diamond mine returns less than 10% of the profit made from diamonds sold. African exploitation by Zionism is part and parcel of capitalist imperialism in general, developed and sustained by the exploitation of the global south, militarily and politically. De beers diamond industry is a settler-colonial project in the Southern African region. Cecil Rhodes spearheaded the development of the industry backed by British Arms and western capital. The Rothchilds financed the Cecil Rhodes diamond industry built on stolen African land starting in the late 1800’s. Much of the capital from this enterprise financed the budding Zionist settler-colonial movement. The British saw this Zionist movement as beneficial in two ways: 1) to rid Europe of their “so called Jewish problem”; removing their Jewish inhabitants and 2) having a compatible imperial ally in Palestine and the region.
The last quarter of 2023 saw rapid acceleration of the destruction of the political Zionist myth. We must not be confused that Oct 7 was the beginning of this struggle; it is simply another apex where protracted struggle meets a climax, a dialectical moment, a shift in forces. The ideology of Zionism has received a moral defeat, not in the U.N., or the courts but in the minds of the future, the youth, the people. Never again will a generation confuse Zionism with Judaism. Zionism has exposed itself with the help of Hamas, the Palestine Liberation Front, and the collective Palestinian resistance. The Gaza population by refusing to move have forced the Zionist in Israel, U.S., Britain, Germany, E.U. to expose their true nature. Their genocidal nature and actions are being recorded in real time. Zionism as a genocidal settler-colonial project a fascist project akin to the Naziism that European Jews and the world faced in World War II. Settler-colonialism is the parent of Fascism. Zionism has exposed itself as not only an enemy of Palestinians, but of Jews themselves. Far from being in support of Jewish resistance in the Warsaw Ghetto; the Zionist exploited it to fuel their settler-colony. Zionism’s settler-colonial ideology is part and parcel of the capitalist imperialist onslaught of indigenous peoples that reshaped the world into the colonizers and the colonized.
The Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement, now twenty years old, has helped inspire a new anti-apartheid generation globally. Paired, with Palestinian resistance both peaceful and armed, against occupation, has weakened the well-oiled Zionist controlled narrative. The Israeli blockade, their successive Israeli attacks on civilians in Gaza from 2005 thru 2022 and its regular killing of peaceful demonstrators, as exemplified by the “March of Return ” 2018, brought renewed world attention to the occupation of Palestine. The student movements for a Free Palestine reignited the work of the, Palestinian Students Organizations and the Palestinian Women’s Organizations in the Palestinian Diaspora. These organizations during the national liberation era of the 1970s and 80’s was active on campus and resistance forums like African Liberation Day with fellow national liberation organizations from the global south, Pan-African Congress of Azania, Zimbabwe African National Union, the New Jewel Movement, The Baath Party Syria, the American Indian Movement, the Sandinistas etc. From 1974-1975 Zionism suffered a succession of moral defeats, in United Nations resolution 3236 supporting Self-Determination for Palestinian People; including the Right of Return, the Organization of African Unity resolution against the “Unholy Alliance” of Rhodesia, South Africa and Israel that laid the ground for the United Nations resolution “Zionism is Racism”.
This period of resistance coincides much like the period of national liberation with the struggle against the police state murders of African and Indigenous People in the USA, Brazil, Colombia, Britain, France, etc. This created a space for renewed collaboration between African, Indigenous and Palestinian activists. We must be clear that movements and resolutions are not power, they are only tools in the fight. The power is in the self-determined organized implementation of the demands and resolutions by the people themselves; by “Any Means Necessary”. The resolution “Zionism is Racism” was overturned in the United Nations in 1991, the Palestinian organizations in the diaspora were dismantled and outlawed in the United States and other powerful states. Yet, the struggle for Palestinian people continues and is growing in moral authority every day. This moral authority must transfer into concrete support for the forces of liberation. We must support Hamas and all legitimate resistance forces in Palestine. We must support all the resistance forces challenging the Zionist entity and its ideology; the forces in Lebanon, Yemen, Iran and Syria.
Our Boycotts must take on a new dimension. We must strike at the heart of the industrial and Military foundation of Zionism. We must interrupt their major trade in diamonds and military hardware and spyware Genocide in Gaza: Luxury at what cost? – Middle East Monitor . Unions, ports, civil society and revolutionary organizations must not just bring unrest to civilians but to the economic life of Zionism. This should not be a temporary struggle for liberation against Zionism but a strategy for the permanent defeat of Zionism and imperialism. Land and resource reclamation is at the heart of this struggle. The global south has unfinished business. Our national liberation struggles have neither reclaimed our land in whole nor our non-renewable resources. Apartheid is just a weapon of settler-colonialist genocide. But at the heart of it is imperialist violence led by racist imperialist ideas and illogical myths of superior people.
The A-APRP, a revolutionary Pan-Africanist organization, understands that one of the critical frontlines against imperialism today is raging in Palestine, it is the “Global South’s” collective struggle against imperialism and for the advancement of humanity. We know Zionism like all imperialism is the direct enemy of African People, all oppressed people, and the planet.
