THE ALL-AFRICAN PEOPLE’S REVOLUTIONARY PARTY AND THE ALL-AFRICAN WOMEN’S REVOLUTIONARY UNION CONDEMN IN THE STRONGEST TERMS THE TERRORIST ATTACK AGAINST THE CUBAN EMBASSY IN THE UNITED STATES
On Sunday September 24th, 2023 a terrorist targeted the Cuban Embassy in Washington, DC. The assailants threw two molotov cocktails at the building, causing damage. Just a few years earlier in April 2020, a terrorist shot at the very same Cuban embassy building with an AK-47 assault rifle causing damage. These are just the latest examples of at least 581 attacks that have been carried out against Cuban diplomatic facilities since the triumph of the Cuban revolution in 1959.
Immediately after this most recent attack, anti-imperialist organizations including the Black Alliance for Peace and National Network on Cuba, gathered outside the Cuban embassy to demonstrate and show support for the revolutionary nation of Cuba. Then on Tuesday, condemnations of the attack from Russia, China, and other nations resisting imperialism followed, demonstrating that on the global stage Cuba has many, many more friends than enemies.
Demonstrations in Washington, DC and beyond have continued since the attack with participants gathering to express their solidarity with the Cuban revolution and calling for US authorities to take action to curb anti-Cuba terrorism.
We are not surprised by these kinds of attacks in the US against the Cuban revolution. Terrorists believe that they can make these kinds of attacks with impunity inside the US because of the decades long hostile policy of the US towards Cuba. These vigilante terrorist attacks are in fact inspired and encouraged by the long history of US- sponsored terrorist attacks on the Cuban revolution. From the Bay of Pigs invasion, to the bombing of Cubana Airways Flight 455, to biological warfare, to hotel attacks in Havana, since January 1st, 1959, the US empire has relentlessly enlisted the most reactionary elements of society in an attempt to overthrow the Cuban revolution by targeting Cuban civilians and the Cuban state. More recently on July 5th, 2023, the US sent a submarine armed with nuclear weapons to its military occupation of Guantanamo Bay in Cuba —a clear sign of provocation in their continued effort to destroy the Cuban revolution, its government, and the Cuban Communist Party.
Despite this long and cowardly history of US-backed terrorism targeting Cuba, the US government has failed to take action to curb reactionary right wing anti-Cuba forces initiating attacks upon the island within US borders. Additionally, the US government has escalated economic and political attacks on Cuba by placing the revolutionary socialist nation on an arbitrarily defined list of “State Sponsors of Terrorism” maintained by the US Department of State. Cuba’s placement on this list means that it is effectively locked out of the US dominated global banking system, cutting off its access to cash, loans, and credit needed to participate in international trade. The immediate consequence of this policy is nothing less than starvation and devastation in Cuba as the nation struggles to find resources to import necessary supplies like food, medicine, and fuel. Far from being a so-called “state sponsor of terrorism”, Cuba has been, for decades, a victim of economic, political, and military terrorist attacks carried out by the USA and its proxies.
The All-African People’s Revolutionary Party and the All-African Women’s Revolutionary Union express our permanent unity and solidarity with our comrades in Cuba and their supporters worldwide. We share with Cuba the global fight against the capitalist/imperialist system and its attempts to destroy the Cuban revolution. We are eternally grateful to the active participation of the Cuban people in our quest for a free and united Africa, and view the Cuban revolution as part and parcel of the African revolution. Our position is that when you attack Cuba you attack us all.
We once again condemn the attack on the Cuban embassy, condemn the long history of US-sponsored attacks on the Cuban revolution, and join the call of millions of people worldwide who are demanding that Cuba be taken #OFFTHELIST of the US State Department’s State Sponsors of Terrorism.
We call for our comrades and supporters to sign the petition at letcubalive.info, linked here, demanding the removal of Cuba from the US State Department’s State Sponsors of Terrorism list.
Let Cuba Live!
